Student Observation

Student observers requiring 20 hours or more and/or requiring interaction with students must complete DPS Background Checks. This is a prequisite to accommodating an observation and allowing the student observer on campus.

Student observers requiring access to student records must complete a confidentiality form, to be kept on file.

Requests to be a student observer must be made in writing via email, fax or postal service/hand delivery, and include the following:

  • Fax: (210) 804-7056
  • Diana Bennett, Human Resources Coordinator
  • NEISD Human Resources Department
  • 8961 Tesoro Drive, Suite 200
  • San Antonio, Texas 78217
  1. Student's name
  2. University attending
  3. Certification area
  4. Number of observation hours required by university class
  5. Subject and grade level preference
  6. Description of the observation requirements (e.g., observe the teacher and class only, with no student interaction)
  7. Student observer's contact information. Minimally, this includes an email address and phone number. Other information the student observer wishes to share is also welcome.

Student observers accommodated by NEISD will be notified by the HR Coordinator to contact the schools to make arrangements. Student observers must take with them to the campus the following:

  1. Letter from the university professor explaining the observation and/or a copy of the course syllabus
  2. Photo ID

Campus principals have final say as to whether they can accommodate student observation requests.

Actual NEISD student names cannot be used in assignments.

NEISD cannot accommodate student observers required to audio or video tape students.

Direct all questions regarding student observation to Diana Bennett, HR Coordinator.

North East ISD reserves the right not to accept a student observer provided the decision is not based on race, sex, national origin, disability, age, religion, or any basis protected by law.
