Northwood Elementary is a Basic School. This philosophy is best described by its founder, Dr. Ernest L. Boyer. The four priorities that Dr. Boyer sites are: community, curriculum coherence, climate, and character. Community: Northwood has a wonderfully supportive community. Please visit our PTA's wonderful website at www.northwoodpta.org to see all the wonderful things they are working on! Curriculum: In the Basic School, literacy is the first and most essential goal. But, language at Northwood is defined broadly to include words, numbers, and the arts. Climate: A positive learning climate is our goal here at Northwood. We strive to make our campus safe for all. Character: Seven core virtues are practiced here at Northwood. They are...honesty, generosity, compassion, perseverance, responsibility, respect, self-discipline.
