Beginner Instrument Information List
2006-2007
Students in the Nimitz Band
are required to furnish their own instruments unless they are assigned
to play the following instruments: tuba, horn, oboe, bassoon, or
baritone. Students playing these instruments will be required to
supply their own mouthpieces and accessories. There are several
reputable music stores in the area that offer rental-purchase plans to
fit any budget.
Recommended Brands & Models of Instruments
Flute:
Yamaha YFL 285S, Gemeinhardt FL 53, Armstrong 103 (or 105 Split E)
Clarinet:
Buffet E11, B-12, Normandy 4, Ridenour.

Wooden Clarinets are preferred over plastic. Mouthpieces
should be either a 5 RV Lyre or Ridenour BE10. Be sure to specify that
you want this mouthpiece substituted for whatever comes with the
clarinet.
Alto Saxophone:
Yamaha YAS23, Vito 7131, Selmer AS300 or AS600.

Mouthpieces should be either Selmer C4, 4 or Ridenour
T65.
Trumpet:
Yamaha YTR2335TN, Holton T602P, King 601W, Bach TR300TH.

Mouthpiece should be a Bach 5C.
Trombone: Yamaha
YSL354, Holton TR602P, King 606, Bach TB300.
·
Mouthpiece should be a Bach 6 ½ AL.
Percussion: Percussion kit containing a
snare drum, bell set, Vic Firth 5A general snare sticks, hard rubber
keyboard mallets.
Horn: Holton Farcus medium cup
mouthpiece.
Baritone: Bach 6 ½ A Mouthpiece.
Tuba: Bach 18 mouthpiece.
Music Book
All beginning band students are required to
purchase a music book. The book that we are
using is Standard of Excellence Bk. 1 by
Bruce Pearson. The book can be purchased
from RBC Music located at Callaghan and 410 East
(736-6902) at a price of around
$7.50 ($15 for percussion).
