Technical Theatre
Technical Theatre Staff : Mark Ayers
NESA "techies" study and produce various artistic styles of scenery, gain experience in the fundamentals of designing for proscenium, thrust, arena, and environmental theatre, and work as stage managers, lighting designers, set designers, costume designers, and other roles in technical theater. Elements of design and principles of composition are studied while producing working drawings, renderings, and models. Behind the Scenes Technical Theatre
Course work for Technical Theatre majors will include:
  • Study of various artistic styles of scenery and the fundamental involved in designing for proscenium, thrust, arena, and environmental theatre
  • Exploration of technical theatre as a means of creative problem solving
  • Study of in-depth approaches to the various technical positions involved in full theatrical production
  • Learning the duties of the director, stage manager, lighting designer, set designer, costume designer, crew chiefs, and the various other positions covered by the theatrical technicians
  • Development of the students' knowledge of the elements of design and the principles of composition into their creative works
  • Learning to develop working drawings, renderings, scale drafting, and portfolio presentation

Through a study of theatre management, students will understand and appreciate the management and involvement of the technical aspects of theatre work, interfacing with playwrite, director, producer, actor, technician, and designer. Studies will include pre-production, rehearsal, and performance.
