Welcome
Natalie Pyle, a NESA Musical Theatre major who graduated in May 2004, wrote the following poem. It reflects the essence of the young artists who are NESA students.
Introduction:

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce tells in four parts his past and present important experiences, which have helped him to shape his future goals. In Joyce's final chapter, he decides to put Ireland on the map with his writing, and he did. My assignment involved mimicking Joyce's style and form to find the direction my life would take after high school. This poem shares my discovery of my connection to art, and offers an explanation to those who do not understand art's significance in life:
Abide with me. Few can understand us, but we must rest in the arms of love, you and me. They say we are impractical. We will not make a living. We will struggle, starve, and go through times of hardship. They do not understand. You are a part of me. An unforgettable part of my being, and to separate would be my destruction. I cannot go a day without you. I find myself with you when I am alone or in a crowd. In my shower, I am with you, creating a new song, a new monologue. You hear me, and you compliment me. You help me to laugh or cry, never needing to ask questions because you know. I cannot hide my feelings from you. I give you my love, and you return to me yours with a ribbon, my darling. Together. Just you and just me. People may call me your queen, and they have every right to call me so, because I am. You are my king, sweet art.
