New Student Registration
The steps below will assist you in the registration process for your student.
1.
Check Residential Eligibility and Assigned Schools
Children who reside within the boundaries
of the North East Independent School District are eligible for enrollment
in district schools. The district does not accept tuition students from outside
of its boundaries. To verify if your residence is in NEISD, enter your street
name into the street
address database to see if your street is within NEISD, and if so, what
campus your child will attend. If you cannot determine your campus from the information on the boundaries pages, please call
Community Relations at (210) 804-7090.

The population growth north of Loop 1604 has caused North East to restrict the enrollment (capping) of new students in some or all grade levels at Canyon Ridge, Roan Forest and Wilderness Oak elementary schools. Additional NEISD schools may be capped at one or more grade levels if they reach capacity. For more information on the current capped schools, visit the boundaries Web page. If your school is capped, you should still contact the campus to receive further instructions about where to register.
2.
Know the Rules for Kindergarten and First Grade
According to State law, a child who has reached five years of age on or before
September 1 of the current school year is eligible to attend kindergarten.
Children enrolling in first grade must also be six years of age by September
1 of the current school year. A student who is five years of age on or before
September 1 of the current school year and has completed public school kindergarten in another state or is enrolled in a public school first grade class in another state may continue in the first grade if he/she moves into North East ISD during the school year.
Please note: once a child is enrolled in public school, state attendance laws will apply. Under the law, if a student is absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, then (1) The student's parent is subject to prosecution under Section 25.093 and (2) The student is subject to prosecution under Section 25.094 of the Texas Education Code.

Bring the Proper Paperwork
Prior to the first day of school, the following are required for enrollment:
- Proof of residency (copy of entire current utility bill showing address, month of bill and bill amount, or lease agreement)
- Current immunization record (see immunization requirements web page by NEISD Health Services)
- Birth certificate
- Social Security card (if one is not available or parent does not want this number used, a state ID will be assigned)
- Report card from previous school (if applicable)

- Birth certificate (if not received in 30 days, must be reported to local law enforcement agency)
- Social Security card (if one is not available or parent does not want this number used, a state ID will be assigned)
- Report card from previous school (if applicable)
If no birth certificate is provided, the parent/guardian has 30 days to provide one. If one is not provided, the child's name must be reported to the local law enforcement agency as a possible missing child. If no Social Security card is provided, a state ID number will be assigned. If no prior school records are provided, the school will make a request directly to the prior school. Parents are to take these items to the assigned campus to register (determined in Step 1). Please note that a parent or legal guardian must register the student. If the person accompanying the child to enroll is not the biological parent or guardian, they must be cleared through Pupil Personnel Services at Central Office, (210) 804-7070. Step parents may be given authority by a biological parent or legal guardian to interact with the school as a parent. The permission must be written, signed and dated. This permission will be verified as being from the biological parent or guardian. If you have any other questions about registration, contact Pupil Personnel at (210) 804-7070.
4. Know When Registrations Can be Accepted
Families needing to register should do so at their designated campus (see step 1). School contact information can be found on the Campus Web page. Families moving in during the summer are encouraged to register before the first day of school, if possible. A summer registration schedule is listed below.
SUMMER REGISTRATION SCHEDULE*
Elementary Schools: Registration is available during office hours resuming on Aug. 6, 2008.
Middle Schools: Registration is available during office hours resuming on Aug. 6, 2008.
High Schools: Registration is available during office hours throughout the summer. Parents may submit all forms required to register, but will need to make an appointment with a counselor to receive a class schedule and finalize the registration process. A counselor will be available for appointments on Wednesdays during the months of June and July. Beginning Aug. 5, 2008, a counselor will be available every day for appointments.
For students entering ninth grade in 2007-2008 and beyond, six credits are required to be classified as a sophomore. Read more about this policy.
*During summer registration, campus staff will be limited. Families with students receiving special education services may register during the times above, but will need to schedule in ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal) meeting following the return of the appropriate campus personnel to finalize the registration process. 5. Find Out if You Qualify for Bus Transportation
Bus service is provided for students living beyond two miles of their schools.
