AYP School choice - 2012-13

The North East Independent School District (NEISD) is sharing information as part of its obligations under the Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 concerning Adequately Yearly Progress (AYP).  Please carefully review the information below and in the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) School Choice Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document.

School Choice

If a campus or district that is receiving federal Title I, Part A funds does not meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two or more consecutive years in the same indicator, that campus or district must meet additional federal requirements, sometimes referred to as the School Improvement Program (SIP). A district or campus that receives Title I, Part A funds and misses the same AYP indicator for two consecutive years is subject to Stage 1 Title I AYP Requirements. Stage 2 refers to any district or campus that receives Title I, Part A funds and misses the same AYP indicator for three consecutive years.

School districts receiving Federal funds under Title I, Part A are required to make school choice available to all students who are enrolled in the Title I campuses if their campus has been identified as in: (1) school improvement; (2) corrective action; or (3) restructuring.  All students enrolled in schools in improvement are eligible to transfer to another public school campus identified by  the district within a thirty-day window (ends September 7, 2012) until the campus is no longer identified for improvement, corrective action, or restructuring, i.e., until the campus makes Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years.

Currently, NEISD has six campuses that are in Stage 1 of school improvement and one campus in Stage 2 of school improvement. Families may choose to stay at these campuses or request an AYP School Choice transfer. AYP guidelines state that the district has the final decision on the transfer schools. NEISD selected the receiving schools, or transfer schools, based on available programs, available staffing and available capacity.

The table below provides the schools that must offer AYP school choice and the receiving campuses where students may transfer. To apply for AYP school choice, Parents/Guardians must complete an AYP School Choice Request for Transfer form. The form is available at schools in Stage 1 or Stage 2 of required School Improvement or in the table below. Please visit the campus links below to review specific information about the schools:
