Principal - Ivonna Gonzales, Ed. D.

Welcome to all of our Mighty Mustang families!  It is an honor to be the principal of Montgomery Elementary, and I look forward to getting to know your wonderful children this year.

Since I am new to the school this year, you may be interested in learning a little bit more about me. This is my 28th year in education and my 15th year as a principal. Wow, how time flies when you enjoy what you do!!

I grew up in a military family and had many opportunities to live in different states. I even spent four years in Germany when I was in 3rd-6th grade. I learned to speak German at a young age of nine! My family arrived in San Antonio in 1979, and I graduated from Cole High School on Ft. Sam Houston in 1981.

I then attended Baylor University, with the initial intent of becoming a geologist, my passion since 8th grade! However, my future took a different path when I decided to change my major to education at the end of my junior year. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in Earth Science and German.

I began my teaching career as an 8th grade Earth Science teacher at McNair Middle School in Southwest ISD. After five years of teaching, I received my Master of Arts degree in school leadership from UTSA and transitioned to an assistant principal’s position. I worked as an assistant principal for eight years before becoming the principal of Bob Hope Elementary, where I remained for six years.

After spending 19 years in SWISD, I was given the chance to join the
North East ISD family. In 2005, I was appointed as principal of Dellview Elementary in the Lee High School Cluster. While at Dellview, I received my Doctor of Education degree in educational leadership from UTSA and completed my Superintendent’s certification. In 2010, I helped open Cibolo Green Elementary, the first “green” school in NEISD and remained there for three years.

My husband, Steven, is a 3rd grade teacher at Fox Run Elementary. My son is a senior at O’Connor High School in NISD.  He plays the clarinet and tenor sax. He plans to major in Music when he goes to college. He is passionate about his music, so marching band season keeps us very busy!

I enjoy cooking with a new recipe and reading a great book when I have the chance. In addition, I am always looking to learn new things, especially as it relates to using technology in the classroom with students.

I take my job very seriously, and strive to work collaboratively with you and our staff to provide your children with the very best educational experiences possible. This is going to be a fantastic year!

Assistant Principal - Veronica Medina

I am happy to say that this is my 3rd year as a Montgomery Mustang!  Besides my experience at Montgomery, I have also served as an NEISD Assistant Prinicpal at Steubing Ranch Elementary and at Colonial Hills Elementary.  I also served as a teacher and an Assistant Principal in another district, bringing my total experience in elementary schools to 20 years!  I graduated from UTSA with a bachelor's degree and master's degree and proud to be a Road Runner.
My family includes my husband of 20 years and our three daughters.  Honestly, one of my challenges this year, will be that I will have a child in an elementary school, middle school and high school!  If any of you are in this same situtation, please let me know how you do it.  My girls are in many activities including band and dance classes, so I can symphathize how busy a family schedule can be!  In my limited free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, shopping with my daughters, and spending time with family.
Our vision statement this year at Montgomery is, "We will inspire and empower all our students with the knowledge and drive to be successful in the world of tomorrow."  I believe this statement with my heart for all children and will do my best to help our students and parents realize this possibility.   Knowing that students learn best when they are in class every day, I will Inspire and Empower students by making them feel welcomed to come to school on a daily basis.   If you ever have a question or concern that I can help you with, please come see me or give me a call (407-5000).

Go Mustangs Go!!

Assistant Principal - Jennifer Ruiz

I am extremely excited to begin my 15th year in education as a Montgomery Elementary Mustang. This is my first year as an Assistant Principal, but I have been a school leader for the past 10 years as a Reading Coach and Instructional Intervention teacher. All my years in education have been in NEISD.

I was born and raised in San Antonio and I am a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Incarnate Word and my master's degree from UTSA. I have 3 children and my husband is also an educator. He teaches PE and coaches track and cross country. We love to spend time together with our families and enjoy our activity-packed weekends.

I believe that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Parents and educators must work together to encourage a positive attitude in students to help them believe that the sky is the limit. As educators, we are here to instill a love of learning and help students to achieve their dreams.
Please stop by my office and say hello. I look forward to a wonderful year of meeting new friendly faces at Montgomery!
Let’s have a great 2013-2014 school year!

Administrative Intern - Analeasa Holmes

I am very happy to be serving as an administrative intern at Montgomery Elementary this year!

Before wanting to become an administrator, I was a music teacher for four years.

I went to Trinity University where I received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master in the Art of Teaching degree. At the end of my year at Montgomery, I will complete my second Master's degree in School Leadership.

I look forward to a wonderful year at Montgomery and can't wait to meet and learn from all our students!
