Structure and Responsibilities:

The Facility Support Department is responsible for the efficient management, direction, and control of all labor efforts dedicated to the custodial care, maintenance, repair, modification, and operation of all structures, installed equipment, and grounds.

Facility Support consists of 546 employees:  1 Director for Facility Support, 1 Assistant Director of Custodial Services, 1 General Foreman, 1 Operations Specialist, 1 Training Specialist, 3 Area Supervisors, and 7 Assistant Supervisors.

WHAT WE DO:

We are responsible for all aspects of management within the Facility Support Department; assuring facilities are clean, sanitary, and conducive to exemplary working and learning conditions.

  • Provide Custodial and maintenance services to more than 60 educational facilities and numerous administrative facilities consisting of more than 10 million square feet of space, servicing more than 60.000 students.
  • Interact and provide technical consulting services to campus administrators on all issues relating to building trades, grounds, and custodial care of all district owned facilities.
  • Inspect and maintain all custodial and maintenance equipment throughout the district.
  • Provide training and management for custodial concerns throughout the district.

HOW WE’VE IMPROVED:

Utilizing the six key drivers, (Organize, Assess, Plan, Take Action, Evaluate, Communicate), the department has been restructured and reinvigorated with an emphasis on improved efficiencies and establishment of “Going Green” directives and policies.   The Director for Facility Support establishes the baseline and standards of quality for which custodial services are measured consistently throughout the district.  There are eleven major elements to the quality assessment that are objectively evaluated.  The campus custodial staff is provided the training and criteria well in advance of the assessments and encouraged to perform self evaluations.

  • Actively involved in the District’s single stream recycling program which in less than one year has already recycled more than 550 tons of materials.
  • Select Green Seal certified products whenever available.
  • Perform monthly campus inspections and assessments.
  • Utilize equipment that uses LEEDS recommendations as their guiding force of “green” equipment.
  • Reduced chemical costs by 19%
  • Established a training academy which utilizes the HONOR’S program for teaching proper techniques
