Book Procedures

Note: A bar-coded ID card is required for all bookroom transactions

Each student will be issued the necessary textbooks for the subjects he/she is taking. The care of these textbooks is the student’s responsibility, and any damage to a book beyond normal wear of the book may result in a fine.  If a textbook is lost or stolen, the student is required by state law to pay for it before a second textbook can be issued.

CLEARING OBLIGATIONS

Students who have not cleared obligations from the previous school year must do so before prep day for the coming school year. Students with outstanding obligations will not be issued textbooks for the new school year until all obligations from the previous school year have been cleared.   The Main Office is open during the summer from 7:00AM to 5:30PM, Monday-Thursday.

Receiving New Books –

RETURNING BOOKS NO LONGER NEEDED

During the school year you may have a schedule change and no longer need books they were issued at the beginning of the school year. It is important that these books be returned to the book room as soon the schedule change is made. If you  drop a course you are required to turn in the book for the course drop before being given a book for a course added. Follow the procedure below when returning books:

LOST BOOKS

Our computerized book system allows us to scan an accession # , locate the book’s owner and automatically award credit for a returned book. With the average cost of a textbook being more than $40.00 is important that you help each other by turning in all books found. If you lose a book you should check with the secretary in K1007 to see if the book was turned in.

SIX-WEEKS BOOK CHECK

Teachers are required to check each student’s textbook once during each six weeks. Book check dates are announced in advance and students are expected to have in class the book they were issued at the beginning of the school year. Books that are not presented for the book check are assumed lost and a Lost Book Notification letter is given to the student and parent.. The student will be issued another book after the lost book is paid for. Students with a receipt, are given a refund for books lost, paid for and subsequently found.

LOCKERS

Students are assigned individual lockers at the beginning of the school year and are responsible for its contents.  Students should not let anyone know their locker combination and should report any damages or lost of combination to the administrator in the bookroom.  Lockers are the property of the NEISD and periodic general inspections may be conducted by school administrators at any time, without notice, without student consent, and without a search warrant. Lockers are provided as a convenience only; therefore, the care of valuables is a personal responsibility and not that of the school.  The school cannot guarantee the security of the contents of the lockers.

At the end of the school year, or if you should leave Madison during the school year, take all books out of your locker and return them to the bookroom. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY BOOK YOU WERE ISSUED. Do not leave books in your locker and hope that someone will turn them in for you.

Identification Cards

Students are required to obtain a school identification card and keep it in their possession at all times.  Each ID card must have a bar-code sticker and a blue Internet validation sticker if clearance has been granted for Internet access.  The first ID card is free.  A fee of $4.00 will be assessed for lost ID cards.

Lost and Found

All lost articles, excluding books, are placed in the lost and found area.  Library books are returned to the library and textbooks are returned to the bookroom.

A student who finds an article can help in returning it to its rightful owner by promptly turning it into the lost and found area located in the K building.  A student who loses an article should go immediately to the lost and found to inquire if it has been turned in, and upon adequate description may claim his/her possession.

At the end of the school year, after a reasonable period of time, all unclaimed articles are distributed through different community agencies.
