In Texas, children between the ages of 6 and 18 - depending on when the child's birthday falls -  are required to attend school unless otherwise exempted by law.

Minimum Attendance Requirements

State law requires:

• students may not be credited for a class unless the
   student is in attendance a minimum of 90% of the days the class meets.
• students in attendance less than 90% of the days the class meets will lose credit unless each the excessive absences are made up in Saturday School.

The 90% rule for credit, per semester corresponds to five (5) absences per scheduled class.  All absences over 5 must be made up in Saturday school.
