(Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) is a program designed to show high school students how engineering can be fun and exiting in many different ways. The BEST program sponsors schools like Madison High School to work as a team to build a remote controlled robot designed to accomplish a single task. This years task is to get on top of a platform ("The Lost Palnet"), pick up as many supplies as we can in 3 minutes flat and bring them back to the "home planet". Each team is given the exact number of parts to design the machine. The only materials aloud to be used is the materials given kick off day. The building process involves hard work, configuring and the one thing we are the best at; TEAMWORK. We start the competition on kick off day and are given:
  • The time period of the contest: The game is limited to a six week period to simulate a product time to market constraint.
  • The resources for the contest: Each team is given an identical box of odd parts, fasteners, materials, and a radio controller for motors.
  • The specifications for the contest: At kickoff, a detailed game task description will be given to each team. This description is the most closely held secret in the process, known only to a select few BEST game designers before the kickoff.
At the competition, Schools are encouraged to bring their banners, cheerleaders, mascots, bands, and what ever they want to add to the sports-like atmosphere.
