VIDEO OF CHEERLEADERS AT NATIONALS

The MacArthur Cheerleading squads consist of 16 Varsity, 8 JV and 5 freshman members. Under the leadership of Ms. McKinley, Courtney McDougle and Alyssa Rodriguez are the Co-Head Cheerleaders, and Brittany Boelens is the JV Squad Leader. The Varsity team includes 5 seniors, 4 juniors and 7 sophomores. The JV team includes 1 senior, 2 sophomores and 5 freshmen.  The freshmen team is made up of 5 freshmen.
The cheerleaders primary focus is to promote school spirit.  Not only do the girls cheer at football games, but they support other sports at MacArthur such as basketball (boys & girls), volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer (boys & girls), and the swim team by cheering at their games. They make weekly posters and decorate the school in support of each sport.  In addition to motivating the student body at pep rallies each week during football season, the girls continue the spirit all year round for ALL sports teams at MacArthur High School.
This season promises to be another successful year with the cheerleaders – PERSONAL AND TEAM GOALS ARE SET HIGH.  In addition to promoting school spirit, the cheerleaders are already training hard.  The competition team will compete starting in October and continue through January in numerous competitions, which will help to prepare and qualify them for the national competition in February. The 2006-2007 Varsity Competition Team dominated the preliminary round and advanced directly to the final round placing 5th at the National High School Cheerleading competition held in Orlando, Florida on February 10-11, 2007. They competed against more than 63 teams in their division and placed higher than any other Texas team at the competition. This year the cheerleaders strive to continue this winning tradition.
Not only focused on motivating school spirit throughout the year, Ms. McKinley works hard to create a strong bond among the cheerleaders. There are many "squad bonding" activities within the year which helps build and maintain the "TEAM" moral. During the holiday season, the cheerleaders also participate in adopting underprivileged families by purchasing gifts and providing baked goods and food, which also strengthens the MacArthur Cheer "family" Ms. McKinley, strives to maintain.
As you can see, MacArthur Cheerleaders are more than just the "Rah-Rah" of yesterday. Cheerleading – it’s truly a sport based on team building, high standards and commitment. Although competing is an important part of cheerleading, upholding school traditions, creating strong school spirit and lending a hand to the MacArthur community is what keeps the MacArthur Cheerleaders on the top.

Good Luck girls in the upcoming year!
