Course: ORCHESTRA I, II, III, IV Course Description: Orchestra I --Orchestra Techniques. Emphasis is on basic sequential string pedagogy through appropriate repertoire. Group performance will depend upon instrumentation. Students furnish their own instruments. Concert attendance outside of class is required. $10 annual uniform usage fee. Orchestra II -MacArthur Sinfonietta. Emphasis continues on sequential string technique with ensemble development through standard orchestral repertoire. Sinfonietta is a competition performing ensemble. Students furnish their own instruments. Concert attendance outside of class is required. $10 annual uniform usage fee. Orchestra III --Junior Varsity Chamber Ensemble. Emphasis is on mastery of advanced technique. Students furnish their own instruments. Ensemble performance in the community will be planned. Concert attendance outside of class is required. $10 annual uniform usage fee. Orchestra IV ---MacArthur Symphony (Varsity Ensemble). Emphasis continues on advanced pedagogy, advanced performance/ensemble skills, through standard orchestral repertoire. All areas of string literature as well as full symphonic literature are explored. Students furnish their own instruments. Concert attendance outside of class is required. $10 annual uniform usage fee. NEISD No. 5680 Course Description: This is an accelerated music theory course intended for the serious student for college level study that focuses on the principles of music theory. Content is centered on development of skills in key signatures, harmonic progressions, voice leadings, part writing, rhythmic and melodic dictation, sight-singing, and various other aspects of the rudiments of musical composition. Attendance at a variety of musical performances is a requirement for this course. Students will prepare for the Advanced Placement exam through intensive study and analysis of musical examples in scores, recordings and live performance. NEISD No. 56834 Course Description: This course will survey the major historical periods of music. Periods to be researched are Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, and Contemporary. Concert attendance outside of class will be required (two per semester). NEISD No.
Course: INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE Course Description: This course is offered for those students who are striving to reach a high degree of excellence in musical performance and who elect to schedule two music courses during the same semester. Exception: Guitar students. Emphasis is placed on individual performance considerations with regard to specific instruments and the problems one encounters during performances on that instrument.
