DECA
An Association of Marketing Students |
|
What DECA is...and What We Stand For! DECA, An Association of Marketing Students, was founded in 1946 around an ambitious goal: to improve educational and career opportunities in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship for American students. In the years since, DECA has remained on the cutting edge of educational innovation, working with the business partners to integrate academic achievement with vocational and career related skills. With over 160,000 student members and faculty advisors, we function as the companion student organization to over 6, 000 marketing education programs in secondary and post-secondary schools across the United States, its territories and Canada. The principles that serve as the very foundation of DECA have become models for effective educational alternatives. DECA remains committed to the advocacy of marketing education and the growth of business and education partnerships. |

Preparing For Jobs In The Marketplace American businesses are working harder than ever to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. DECA bridges the gap between traditional classroom-based marketing education and the constantly changing demands and challenges of employers. As a result, DECA members enjoy a competitive edge in the job market...and businesses can count on new employees who are knowledgeable, skilled and motivated. DECA students bring key ingredients to the business sector:

| DECA Officers have BIG Plans! | ||
The inaugural meeting for DECA in 2010-2011 was held on September 23, 2010 in Dr. Todd’s classroom, C-337. The election was conducted by Dr. James Todd, coordinator and sponsor. The result of the election is as follows: President, Adeline Cantu; V.P., Alicia Jimenez; Secre-tary, Jenna Newton and Reporter Becca McGuire. The offi-cers discussed plans for the Employer Ap-preciation Luncheon. Dr. Todd sug-gested “The Barn Door” as it has a special meet-ing room, as well as affordable din-ner entrees and Mama’s because we have students working there and we could use the back meeting room for free. Officers, members and Dr. Todd exchanged other ideas. The students would invite their training station supervisor, and would pay for their supervisor’s lunch. The chapter would purchase 5x7 plaques that would be good for the supervisor’s image at work and would also promote MacArthur |
Marketing Education and Market-ing Education in NEISD, as well. A speaker would need to be invited. Someone who is known and has a heart for education and marketing would be good. Adeline appointed a committee consisting of Dr. Todd and Jenna Newton, whoworks at Mama’s, to decide on time and place. Dr. Todd would coordi-nate plagues, while Becca was tasked to line up a speaker. The speaker’s lunch would be paid by chapter funds! Fall newsletter is imminent! We need to gather all informa-tion, so the Reporter, Becca McGuire and Dr. Todd can get started on producing the master copy. It was suggested that this edi-tion be in black and white. Color had been discussed previously, but due to the cost of color cartridges, black and white would be the for-mat. Christmas Care at San Anto-nio’s First Baptist Church was dis-cussed. All mem-bers thought that it was a worthwhile project and consensus was to continue our par-ticipation. |
There was discussion on having Andrew Monaco, from the San Antonio Spurs, as a speaker. His talk is informative and much, much closer to the TEKS of both Career Prep and Sports & Enter-tainment, so it was decided byAdeline enter-tained a motion to reimburse Dr. Todd for com-petitor room and any other extra-neous expenses at State CDC if we qualify. Mo-tion was seconded by Donny Hammonds and passed unani-mously. We also voted to donate toward a TV for announcements in the cafeteria. Speaking of competition, the officers decided to pull out all stops to maximize our efforts for District 2 DECA Competitive Events. This year the event will be held at Roosevelt on January 19, 2011. We anticipate a good turnout of competitors, as well as some great competition from the other schools in the district, so we better have some practices to pre-pare. Dr. T has lots of experience at district and state, so we’re good |
