Meet the MacArthur Counselors

Bates

Natalie Bates

Degrees: Bachelor of Science in Education, Southwest Texas State University; Master of Arts in Counseling/Guidance, Southwest Texas State University

Areas of Certification and Licensure: : Texas State Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education, Reading, and Social Studies; Texas Professional Certificate in Guidance & Counseling

Interesting Facts: Natalie has enjoyed educating and counseling students for 23 years in NEISD as an elementary teacher and a high school counselor. She has a son, Zack, who is a freshman at Texas State University, and a daughter, Kelsey, who is a freshman at MacArthur High School. She enjoys spending time with her children, traveling, running, and climbing some of the highest peaks in Colorado.

Boyers Karen Boyer

Degrees: Bachelor of Arts in English and History from the University of Texas at El Paso; Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Areas of Certification and Licensure: Texas Secondary Teaching Certificate in English, History, and Geography. Texas Professional Certificate in Counseling; Licensed Professional Counselor.

Interesting Facts: Karen has three grown children one of whom graduated from MacArthur. She traveled all over the United States and Europe while her husband was in the military and lived in Germany for nine years. She enjoys reading and working with young adults. She has been in education for 30 years.

Bradley

Rolla Bradley

Degrees: Bachelor of Education from Hardin-Simmons University; Masters of Arts in Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; Masters of Arts in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Areas of Certification and Licensure: Texas Secondary Teaching Certificate in Special Education and Professional Certificate in Counseling; Licensed Professional Counselor; LPC Supervisor; Certified Mental Health Provider of Sport Counseling; Career Development Facilitator.

Interesting Facts: Rolla has three children and enjoys being involved with his family’s activities. Aside from school counseling, he also has done pastoral counseling and has a private counseling practice.

Esparza

Cristina Esparza

Degrees:  Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Texas at El Paso; Master of Arts in Counseling, University of Texas at San Antonio

Areas of Certification:  Texas State Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education with certifications in Reading and Bilingual Education; Texas Professional Certificate in Counseling

Interesting Facts:   Cristina enjoys camping, watching movies, and playing basketball with her 13 year old daughter.

Degrees:  Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education, University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse; Bachelor of Arts in German, University of Maryland, European Division; Master of Arts School Counseling, University of Texas at San Antonio.

Interesting Facts:  She was born and raised in the city of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, home of the ice cream sundae.  She has traveled all over the world in support of her retired military husband.  She enjoys a variety of hobbies to include: bike riding, yoga, water sports, quilling, Mah Jongg, gardening, sewing, reading, and traveling. She looks forward to helping students live for today, plan for their future and mature into life long learners.

Midgett

Sharon Midgett

Degrees: Associate in Management, Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science, Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling.

Areas of Certification and Licensure:   Cosmetology and Licensed Instructor of Cosmetology, General and vocational counseling.

Interesting Facts:  Over fifteen years of education experience.

Nealon Linda Nealon

Degrees: Syracuse University - Bachelor of Arts in Russian and Secondary Education, Trinity University - Master of Education in Counseling

Areas Of Certification: Texas Secondary Teaching Certificate in Russian & French, Texas Professional Certificate in Guidance & Counseling, New York Secondary Teaching Certificate in Russian.

Interesting Facts: Mrs. Nealon and her husband were born and raised in upstate New York. They have two grown children; one lives in San Antonio and the other lives in The Hague in the Netherlands. Mrs. Nealon enjoys traveling, gardening and serving as a Stephen Minister at her church. She has 36 years of experience in education.
