TSA Habitat for Humanity!
On January 5th, the Technology Students Association accompanied by the classes of Problems and Solutions, and Architectural Design embarked on a mission to help better the community of San Antonio. They built houses! Now what they did was more than just design a plan on the computer! They got to build it by hand, putting up the wall frames and nailing them all together! It was a real blast!
The classes got split up into two teams so they could maximize their efficiency. Although both teams only framed up half the house, the rest of the house would be done quickly so that a new family could move in! Even the news crews were there interviewing different students that was to be shown on the evening news! And amongst the constant sounds of wall-lifting, nailing, and hammering the bond between these students strengthened as they became closer as friends! At the end of the day everyone left the site feeling accomplished that they had done a good deed and in need of a nap!

Pre-Employment Architectural & Construction Exploration Program
The P.A.C.E. Program is a comprehensive exploration of the construction industry. The Program operates once a semester and is available to juniors and seniors. Participating students attend one class each week at the classroom facility at Perrin Central on Wednesday evenings 6:00 to 8:00p.m.for 15 weeks. During the course of the program, students receive hands on training from business professionals in everything from bidding projects to installing sheetrock and re-keying locks.  All participating students also take part in the "Fill My Toolbox Program" where they receive a tool each week they attend class.  These tools fill they toolbox they receive at the first class.

MacArthur High School graduated 10 students from the program this semester.  A graduation ceremony was held at the UTSA Downtown Campus on January 13th.  Students who participated in the program were:
John Boehm                Sergio Garcia-Pina                   Manuel  Gonzalez                    Thao Le
Nate Ralph                   Daniel Redding                       Antanesha Webb

John Boehm, Sergio Garcia-Pina, Manuel Gonzalez, Thao Le and Nate Ralph also took advantage of the free O.S.H.A. ten hour safety class. Upon completion of the O.S.H.A. course these students received their O.S.H.A. card.

SPREADING MAC SPIRIT!

On October 20th, 2010 before MacArthur’s annual Brahma March, members of the Technology Student Association came together to display the School Spirit signs in the breeze ways throughout the campus. The alternating blue and white signs give the students a spirited passing period and helps contribute to Mac’s outstanding spirit. What a great way to show support for our Playoff Bound Varsity Football and Volleyball teams along with all our other excellent teams and organizations we have here at Mac. The signs show confidence and assurance that Mac really is #1!

TSA Leadership Day
The MacArthur Chapter TSA hosted the TSA Regional Leadership Day on Saturday, October 22nd.  The theme for the day was “Road to Success”.  Students from MacArthur, Roosevelt and Stevens were in attendance for the event.  The day was highlighted by a guest speaker, Sybil Pici.  Ms. Pici and her husband are the owners of four McDonald’s in San Antonio.  She gave the students insight as to what it looks like to be a leader, leadership qualities they look for in employees and how to develop their own leadership skills.  She also spoke about her own rise to leadership within McDonald’s.  Students worked on two different problem solving activities which focused on their teamwork and creative abilities.  They also were given the opportunity to take the Lone Star Test.  Those passing the test will receive a pin from the state association for their accomplishment.  At the end of the day all agreed that the ride on the “Road to Success” will be a little bit smoother for those in attendance.

Brahma March & Mactober Fest
Now as all of the students of MacArthur should know, October the 19th was the Brahma March and Mactober Fest. The Technology Students Association or TSA participated in both of these events. First they rebuilt a catapult used in a state competition last year as their main event for the Festival. What they did was set up the catapult some 35 feet away from a designated target or TSA member; they then filled up water balloons and launched them at the targets! It was a recipe for excitement! Running this booth helped fund the club with money to do whatever they wanted to do. After the Mactober Fest the group of TSA high-tailed it to the march, the Brahma March! They had built a car for ultimate transportation! One person would be seated in the driver seat of this go-kart type device and others would be in front dragging it through Regency neighborhood. Also they had a banner and much spirit to show off to the many spectators of the march. Even though there were a few nail-biting moments regarding the cart the day turned out to be a fun day! Once the members got back to MacArthur they called it a day and left for home exhausted but happy.
