Houses at Lee High
School - VOLS
At Lee High School, the school's
approximately 2,000 nonmagnet students have been divided into
four "houses" named after the letters of Lee's mascot, the VOLS
or volunteers. Teachers and one counselor are assigned to each
house.
Already, Principal Michael
Keranen said, "kids are identifying with a smaller group of
teachers and students," and the teams of teachers have been able
to evaluate the work of a single child across classes.
How Lee High School differs from
other magnet programs: We don't select our kids. Our kids come
from a variety of backgrounds.
Lee High School, which educators broke into four smaller
"houses" this year, and unlike some of the magnet high schools,
accepts all comers.
