Las Lomas Elementary School, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, participated in the 7th annual Ornaments for the Planet. Inspired by the Nobel Winning work of Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen National Bank, Whole Foods Market established the Whole Planet Foundation to help tackle the problem of world hunger and poverty. Through the powerful work of micro-loans, women in under developed countries are able to qualify for small loans, usually less than $300, to create or expand a home-based business. These loans help families lift themselves out of poverty for generations to come.
Las Lomas students worked with their book buddies to create handmade ornaments that are then sold at the Whole Foods Market. Ornaments will be on display for sale at both Quarry and Vineyard Whole Foods Market locations during the Month of December. This is the second year Las Lomas Elementary will be participating in this service project. Last year Las Lomas raised over $2000 to help women acquire micro-loans.
Author Aaron Reynolds will be at Las Lomas Elementary on Friday, January 17th.
A huge thank you to the Las Lomas PTA for covering the expenses of this special presentation. We will be taking orders for his books before his visit. The books are on display in the library, if you would like to preview them before you place an order. (This is not a fund raiser for the PTA or the library. Prices cover only the cost of each book.)

America has a long and proud tradition of volunteer service. Recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation and inspires others to make service a central part of their lives.
The Presidential Service Award connects naturally to our Leader In Me program. Our student leaders are serving both on-campus and in our community, and we encourage our students to log their hours and receive recognition for their commitment! One of our Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) this year is to see an increase in participation in the Presidential Service Award Program by 25 students this year.
|Each Friday we show our Lion Pride by wearing our school spirit shirts or dressing predominantly in school colors (purple and gold).
