SOUNDING ROCKETS

    • 1st launched in 1950’s- 1960’s
    • Aerobee 150 was the standard American upper atom-research vehicle.
    • WSPG on sept. 25, 1947- Jan. 17, 1985; 1,000+ vehicles launched.
    • Aerobee 150was a U.S. AF rocket capable of carrying a 50lb. payload.
    • Cambridge a USFA obtained Hawaii’s geodetic location.
    • Iris launched from 1960-1962
    • Starflight 1 reached a suborbital altitude of 10,000 ft.
    • The Rohini reached an altitude of 70km.

    OZONE

      • Exhaust + Ozone=a compound that reacts with the ozone (stratosphere)
      • As you get closer to the ozone you need more pressure.
      • When a rocket hits the stratosphere the weight of the rocket gets smaller.
      • It is easier to conclude that all of the rocket launches on the ozone layer must be inconsequential.
      • The ozone layer maintains a delicate balance of production, transport, and destruction of ozone molecules.
