rocket Would You Like to be in KSAT's Orbit?
Below You Will Find Our Complete Policy Guide.

Definition

Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT), is an applied technology, school-within-a-school magnet program centered around Aerospace themes and housed at Krueger Middle School, North East ISD, in San Antonio, Texas. Students' core courses are Pre-AP and designed with rigor to prepare them for advanced high school studies that in turn will enable them to expand their college admission opportunities.

Students who qualify for the NEISD Gifted and Talented program will be placed in the appropriate English and math classes that are taught by KSAT teachers.

Philosophy

Challenging students to excel is a continuous process and the earlier this starts, the more acclimated students will be for future academic rigor. KSAT challenges students to excel by providing a curriculum that is rigorous, exciting and meaningful. This middle school magnet program is unique because the derivation of curriculum focuses on relevant application of learned concepts through a holistic approach known as subject integration. Simply put, KSAT brings all of the academic subjects together so that students see the relevancy to each other, and through hands-on activities, students apply these concepts to real-world projects. All of this is done so that “relevancy” (authentic & practicable engagement) can be established in traditional, classic academics. Teamwork, self-discipline, and a desire to learn are cultivated by this approach. Building rockets, robots, radios, and pyramids are a few of the hands-on activities students will complete. Additionally, class trips and guest speakers reinforce learning and make it fun.

Structure

The Magnet School Director who reports to the campus principal leads KSAT. The Director is responsible for KSAT student discipline and instructional leadership. Each grade level consists of a team of teachers and a Team Leader. The Team Leader works closely with the Director and is responsible for managing the day-to-day team activities. A Counselor is assigned specifically to KSAT who works with the Counseling Department and the Director.

Academic Support

The goal of each teacher and staff member at KSAT is to help students benefit to the greatest degree possible from this magnet school program. The curriculum and daily lessons are designed to motivate, challenge, and guide the students to become disciplined and self-guided learners. Teacher lesson plans and homework are posted on the magnet web site so that parents can stay informed. We are committed to monitoring each student’s progress carefully to assure that they continue to perform at the same high level of achievement they reached in the past. Parents participated in the decision to send their children to Krueger to experience this special program; therefore, they will be kept informed regularly of their child’s progress according to KSAT’s Academic Intervention Plan.

KSAT has its own assigned counselor who is actively involved with students and parents throughout the middle years.

Extra-curricular Activities

KSAT students compete in middle school athletics, University Interscholastic League Academic and Fine Arts competitions and other club competitions. The Youth Applied Technology Program (YATP) provides a variety of after school club activities for students in all middle school grades. KSAT students have made significant contributions to these programs and have been fortunate enough to have been coached and directed by accomplished teachers.

Eligibility to Attend

KSAT recruits fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students who reside in the North East Independent School District. Students are eligible to transfer to KSAT mid-year or after their sixth and seventh grade year.

Admission Criteria

Students are evaluated for admission to KSAT by using a “whole student” process. The following areas are evaluated: standardized test scores, G.P.A., and conduct. Once you have completed the front side of the application, your school counselor will complete the aforementioned data and forward the application to the KSAT Counselor. Admission is on a “rolling basis.” Early applicants have a greater chance of acceptance if they meet the minimum requirements.

Transportation

Students accepted to the Krueger Middle School magnet programs qualify for free busing to KMS from one of the NEISD middle schools. Parents are responsible to have students at their designated middle schools to be transported in the morning, and then students will be returned to that middle school after class. Please refer to the NEISD Transportation Department for specific schedules. If the student lives within the KMS attendance area, then he or she qualifies for traditional bus transportation to and from school if the residence is more than 2 miles away from the campus.

Detention

KSAT detention is held every Thursday in Room 608 from 3:45 pm - 4:45 pm.

For more information about the admissions process, please contact the KSAT Counselor, Donna Hammock, at 210-650-1350 or e-mail her at lhamma@neisd.net.

Parents, you are always welcome on campus, but please initially
