KRUEGER SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS

6th grade Krueger Summer Reading Assignment

Welcome to 6th grade! Pre-AP English and Reading are rigorous courses that prepare students for high school AP courses. Students will need to annotate (write notes/mark-up each chapter by circling unknown words and then defining the word in the margin or on a post-it note, questioning what you are reading, making connections in writing to what you are reading) their hard or electronic copy of the book during the summer. Pay special attention to the development of characters in the plot sequence and to the theme(s). Each chapter should have at least 3 to 5 annotations. Assignments will be completed when school starts in August.

6th grade Pre-AP = The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

7th grade Krueger Summer Reading Assignment

Welcome to 7th grade! Pre-AP English and Reading are rigorous courses that prepare students for high school AP courses. Welcome to 8th grade! Pre-AP English and Reading are rigorous courses that prepare students for high school AP courses. While you read the book this summer you will create a three column dialectical journal. Label the first column Page #, the second column Text and the third column Response. You will need three entries for each chapter. The response can be a connection you make, prediction, inference, comment, or an aha moment. For example,

Text: “His heart pounded as the whistle faded in the distance.”
Response: I can infer that the character knows he has lost his chance to get back home.

Other assignments will be completed when school starts in August.
