On January 22nd, the Johnson cheerleaders competed at the Texas State Championship in San Marcos.  The Varsity competition squad won 1st in the Large Varsity division earning the title of Texas State Champions.  The JV competition squad won 2nd place in the Large Junior Varsity division.  This past November, both squads were awarded the title of Regional champions.  In February, both squads will compete for the title of national champions at the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida.  Good luck cheerleaders!

 

Spirit Girls

The Johnson High School Cheerleaders have a lot to be proud of as they once again took their UCA Cheer Camp by storm. Johnson was privileged to attend camp at The University of Texas –Austin where they once again took home numerous awards. The Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman squads all took 1st place with their Home Pom routines which were prepared by the team before camp and performed the first night. The Varsity and Freshman squads also earned 1st place in the Camp Cheer, with the JV squad earning 2nd place, and the JV and Freshman squads earned 1st place in the Camp Dance. In addition to these awards, the entire Johnson Cheerleading program was awarded with the “Traditions” award, an award only given to one team out of the entire camp for their exemplary display of school traditions and pride. The entire program was also given chosen as the one school chosen to receive the “Top Banana” for the week which given for their tremendous and infectious spirit. All Americans selected were: Audrey DuVall, Alison Skinner, Clarissa Traylor, Amanda Villarreal, Kristin Von Scheele, Sami Kingry, Sabreana Martinez, Lacey Muldrow, Kayla Potter, Hannah Held and Tanner Jones. Both Emily Koch and Katherine Frazer were selected as All American Mascots and together they won the H2O Mascot award. UCA also offers selected seniors an invitation to tryout for their staff. Six cheerleaders from Johnson received an application for this honor: Audrey DuVall, Jordan Gray, Alison Skinner, Clarissa Traylor, Amanda Villarreal, Kristin Von Scheele.
