Jackson Middle
School serves as Trinity University's Department of Education Professional Development
School at the middle grades level. Jackson teachers
and administrators work with
Trinity students who are preparing to teach middle school. In turn,
Trinity helps Jackson with specific institutional and curricular needs
as well as professional development requests. Faculty members from the university
are available as a resource for Jackson students and faculty,
providing the most recent research on numerous subjects.
A primary benefit
of the partnership for
Jackson students is the lowering of the student-teacher ratio in classrooms.
Interns, graduate students from Trinity, work in the classrooms during the
school year in pursuit of a
Master of Arts in Teaching degree. These individuals have already completed
bachelor's degrees and assist with activities from teaching to
sponsoring campus groups and intramurals. Jackson also hosts
Trinity Practica students. These students are undergraduates who are
completing one of three practica courses in preparation for serving an
internship at Jackson after graduation.
Trinity University's
Department of Education has received numerous awards for the quality of the
MAT program. In 1998 the Department was recognized as one of the six top
teacher education programs in the country and continues to pioneer
progressive practices in the recruitment and preparation of beginning
teachers.
