Identity Goals

Students will:

• understand how identity can be developed, destroyed, abandoned, and changed.
• explore their attributes of personal identity
• explore the cultural identity of their neighborhood and the city of San Antonio. 
• understand the creation of Mexican identity
• understand the current cultural identity of Mexico, specifically the city of Zacatecas
• understand the uniqueness of the San Antonio as compared with other cities in the United States
• understand how a city’s architecture reflects its heritage
• understand how technology affects people’s everyday life
• understand the historical and cultural links between San Antonio
• become global citizens

Overall Travel Goals

Students will:

• identify and challenge stereotypes about each other and Mexico.
• appreciate Mexico’s culture
• emerge from the trip with increased self reliance and confident and the ability to apply new skills to any foreign environment.
• see different “faces” of students not always apparent in the classroom setting
• see how they are interdependent
• interact with local Mexicans

Travel Etiquette Goals

Students will:

• understand and practice proper travel etiquette and safety.
• understand hotel etiquette
• understand food safety
• understand luggage protocol
• exhibit common courtesy towards each other
• understand how to deal with official in Mexico, including checkpoints

Language Goals:

Students will:

• see the relevancy of language skills and gain new skills. 
• learn and use basic conversational Spanish
• move out of their language comfort zone
