2004-2005 Exchange Students - compiled by Leadership Student, Zilola

Hi! My name is Layla, I am 18. I am an exchange student in the International School of the Americas for the 2004-2005 academic year. I come from Kazakhstan, a huge country, situated near Russia and China. I’ve been staying in San Antonio with a host family since August, and I am going back to my country on 25th of May. Pretty soon!

I know, that I am going to miss ISA, and all the friends that I have made here. Being an exchange student is not always easy, it can be very challenging sometimes, but it is wonderful to have the opportunity to discover so much about other country, different people and about yourself, too!

I’m really glad that I was a part of ISA this year. It has been a wonderful experience; I loved all my teachers and classmates! The most exciting things this year were, I think, the senior trip to Washington, DC and participation in Model UN conference. I am going to miss our field trips, our discussions about ‘government cheese’ in Mr. McCusker’s class, lunches in the hallway.

One of the things that I learned through my exchange student experience is that people in other countries can be different on the outside, but still very similar in their hearts. That’s the most important thing that politicians around the world have to remember!

I love San Antonio and ISA!

Hi! My name is Zilola Achilova. I am exchange student at ISA from Uzbekistan, one of the Central Asian countries. The name of is Future Leaders’ Exchange (or FLEX) ACCELS.

I am glad that I became an exchange student, and especially exchange student at ISA. I think it made my exchange year more interesting, and special. I met a lot of other exchange students from Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Syria, South Korea, Sweden, Japan, and Austria; became good friends with them. The most important part is that I met my best friend here, at ISA. I think part of it was because of my school was international, so the students here were more open and flexible. And of course the support teachers have been giving me at ISA, made it easier to adjust, and feel more comfortable.

I believe that ISA will be living through years, and years making a lot of friends from all over the world. Thank you ISA!

Hi, my name is Claudia Rothe, I’m 17 years old and a foreign exchange student  from Germany. I came to the International School of the Americas in January, after I have lived in D’hanis, Texas for 6 months. ISA has really been an amazing experience for me. Everybody here is very open-minded and interested in your cultural differences. I think it is one of the best places to go, when from another country. Now, that I am already about to leave I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by.

Hello my name is George I’m an exchange student from Syria I have been here since August and I’m going to go back in June.

I’m a junior here at ISA and I love this school because the teachers and the student are so nice and I hop to come back here in the future to meet every body again.

Hello, my name is Robert Foelting. (Little German Boy!)

I am an exchange student from Germany, a pretty rainy country in Europe.

My hobbies are mainly sports, especially Basketball, and surfing. I also

Like to read, meet friends and play the guitar.

I am very happy to be here, so that I can see the sun a little longer than 2 hours a day.

But on top of that, I like it a lot here, for many different reasons.

A major point is definitely my exchange family, Diane, Larry and Billy Stallings.

With out these people my year wouldn't be as good as it is.

Thank you for giving so many chances, and trying so hard with me.

There couldn't have been a better family for me. Thank you.

Also, because of my friends that I found here. I think I will go home and be a little bit more grown up, even if that came pretty late.

Some people know exactly what I am talking about. Thank you for trying with me.

Being at ISA has also been a great experience because the teachers and students were always there if I needed them. That didn’t just come after I got to know them slowly, but from the very first day of school. Thank you all for such a great experience.

Gefferson do Prado Bosa

 Jakob Sjogren

Hi, My name is Gefferson do Prado Bosa.   I’m 18 years old.  I’m an exchange Student From Brazil, the hot country in the South America. I’m Senior at ISA, (International School of The Americas). I’m living with a host family William and Robert about 8 months that are making my experience here wonderful. I had a lot of experiences, with the people, school and everything, it’s another culture. With that I can learn so much, and compare this country with mine, and see the differences that made me better! I like to do something with my friends, clubs, movies and something like that! I have a lot friends from another country, like: Thailand, China, Italy, Germany, Canada, Switzerland. They are exchange Student with AFS too. That is cool! My name is Jakob Sjogren. I’m 18 years old and I’m a junior at ISA. I am from Sweden the cold country in the northern part of Europe. My hobbies are snowboarding water-skiing, golf and cross-country. I’ve been here since August and I will go back to Sweden the 8th of June. I have enjoyed my time here at ISA and San Antonio.

Hi,

My name is Tauqeer R. Fazal and I am a foreign exchange student at ISA from Pakistan. I got a scholarship to come to U.S., at first I was very scared coming here because I was almost six weeks late and I was afraid that I wont be able to catch the studies being so late. But as soon as I got here I talked to my representative about this she said “Oh don’t worry about that you will go to ISA”.
It didn’t make me comfortable until I really came to ISA. First day I came here I felt at home, I never felt left out in any thing. I did a lot of things which I would have never heard of if I didn’t have come to ISA, most important of them being MUNSA, model united nations.
I couldn’t believe that a school can work like that ISA is a family. A few months back I was having some personal problems I talked to one of my teachers about it and she helped me out of it. My principal Dr. Albright helped me found a new home and I love my new family I don’t have words o express how grateful I am.
I would never say that I went away from home now ISA is my home, it is my family. I can challenge any other exchange student that I got the best school that helped me have the best American experience anyone could ever have. I found my self at ISA and I am proud to be a part of it.                                                                                                                 Tauqeer R. Teacher Exchanges

Teacher Heidi Anderson and members of the ISA Booster Club pose with Safya Aldegashi, an administrator from Oman.

Kathy Bieser and Heidi Anderson applied for an administrators "exchange" program and were accepted!  During the week of Sept. 20- Sept. 26, Safya Aldegashi visited ISA.  She was interested in looking at many of the same issues that educators in the US: parents, incorporating technology into lessons and projects,  and community service education.
