ISA Mock Election: The Carnal Debate
by
Peyton M.
The Rally: On Monday,
November 1, voters, candidates, and protestors alike witnessed in a
carnal glee, as party members ripped at the each other in a bloody
verbal assault. Shouts of “Four more years,” and “People united will
never be divided” could be heard throughout the Lee auditorium, even if
your hands were clapped firmly over your ears. Through the vicious
shouting of Pro-party raging and “dismissing” insults, the microphone
boomed with the voice of the debate’s moderator, Russell Rowton, whom
called for the momentary silence and return of sanity to the
auditorium.
The Process: Each candidate was given
a question pertaining to a belief, position, or situation of the party.
The candidate was then given a ninety second response to the question.
After a decent response, it was usually followed by the ranting and
raving of its party members, although this was discouraged by the
moderato. After being forcefully quieted down, the crowds when then wait
in an eager and tense silence, as the other candidates were given the
opportunity for a rebuttal.
Three rebuttal
opportunities were given to the six candidates. These came from the
strong standing Democratic Party, the proud Republican Party, the
Charismatic Reform Party, the Dramatic Socialist Party, the Idealistic
Libertarian Party, and the Environmental Green Party.
The Libertarian candidate:
Janelle H. was addressed by the topics of healthcare and gay marriage.
In a mostly graceful and quickly considered response, Janelle thoroughly
emphasized her party’s main position of being your own individual. A
Libertarian chant stating “Vote Libertarian, win a free country” is the
best summery of Ms. H.’s responses. A few rebuttal’s were quickly
thought up, a powerful in question.
The Democratic Candidate:
Tory M. addressed each question with a graceful, yet honestly blunt
response. The responses pertained towards the topics of the summit of
nations and the cost of programs being greater then the repeal of Bush
tax cuts. Ms. M.’s rebuttals were also a more aggressive approach to
democratic view, as she took the most rebuttals of any other candidate.
The Socialist Candidate:
Jake A. was the most improvising of the candidates, not using a
prewritten speech on a sheet of paper to read off of. He made quick
responses, if not with the most grace, answering questions about his own
party, such as a question about how socialism wasn’t working in Europe
and honestly answered the question about why voting socialist if it
would up taxes. With few rebuttals that promoted the socialist beliefs
and ideals, Mr. A. came in running fast and out walking tall.
Republican Candidate:
Ricky M. represented the Republican Party in the most conservative way
that you could. He remained calm despite the many boo’s coming from
other parties and stood his ground when asked about Bush doing his own
part in the so-called ‘flip flopping’. “We have improved these past four
years and will continue to improve in the next four!” exclaims M. in
response to the illegal rebuttal from the Independent/ Reform party. All
in all, he stood firm despite the many rebuttals he was faced with.
Independent Reform Candidate: Leonard
N. was the most charismatic, coming from his acting skills as a member
of NESA. He added in quick and witty rebuttals, as well as charming
answers to his questions.
Green Candidate: Daniel M. had the
environmental views to all of his questions. Pro-environment and
pro-choice ideals allowed the Green Party Candidate to have easy and
fluid responses. He was quiet with rebuttals, however if he so happened
to rebut, it stood strongly against the other candidate. |
