The Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP)

 

The TASP is a test that students have to take if they plan on attending public institutions of higher learning in Texas or students entering educator preparation programs in Texas. The test is to ensure that students have the necessary academic skills to complete college-level work. If students are not proficient in the an academic area, they are required to take developmental courses to improve their proficiencies.

You do not have to take the TASP Test if you have : 
  • ACT composite score of 23, with a minimum of 19 on both the English and math tests;
  • SAT combined verbal and math score of 1070, with a minimum of 500 on both the verbal and math tests
  • score 1770 on the TAAS writing test; score 86 on the Texas Learning Index on the math test; and score 89 on the Texas Learning Index on the reading test 
  • enroll in a certificate program of 42 semester credit hours or less at a public community college or technical college.
