Unit Checkpoints
  • Checkpoint 1: February 4th
  • Checkpoint 2: February 25th
  • Final Project: March 17th

English

Students will write a dramatic reenactment of an event caused by the effects of humans on the environment. Checkpoint #1 – Students will write, as individuals, a dramatic reenactment of an environmental event. In science class, students will choose their group’s best story for filming. Checkpoint #2 – Students will review and practice communication skills in video presentations. Their group film must show excellent communication skills.

Social Studies

Students will discover effects of human migration as a result of manifest destiny. Checkpoint 1 - Students will research assigned topics using a chart to compare and contrast different environmental effects of human migration. Checkpoint 2 - Students will submit research notes that will be included in the dramatization.

Math

Students will focus on trends based on data they collected from the research. Checkpoint 1 - Students will find the mean, median, mode, and range to analyze data they have collected from their research. Checkpoint 2 - Students will transfer their analyzed data into graph form representing trends seen over time and will present it as part of their final video presentation.

Science

Students will investigate the causes of current environmental issues. Checkpoint 1 - Students will submit a summary of a magazine or newspaper article about a current environmental issue. Checkpoint 2 - Students will submit a written proposal detailing a theoretical solution to the environmental problem. This theory will then be incorporated into their final video presentation.

Technology

Students will plan a video of the positive or negative impact on the environment, building on the four main components researched in their other classes. Checkpoint 1 - Students will create a storyboard of the positive or negative impact on the environment, which will help plan and organize the video. Checkpoint 2 - Students will complete all videotaping for the positive or negative impact on the environment and prepare for final editing.
