Students will create a webpage for their U.S History Fair project.

Project Description

Students will create either a webpage, display board, or write a paper using the theme “The Individual in History.”

    Unit Checkpoints
  • Checkpoint 1 – November 12th, 2008
  • Checkpoint 2 - December 3rd 2008
  • Final Project - January 14th, 2009

English

Student will practice the research process in support of their US History fair project. Checkpoint #1 - Students will read sources and create note cards. Checkpoint #2 - Students will organize note cards into an outline.

Social Studies

Students will select a topic relating to this year’s NHD theme, conduct research, and create a project relating the theme to the topic chosen. Checkpoint 1 - Students will submit their topic selection along with a paragraph explaining the reasoning for the selection and how the topic relates to this year’s theme. Checkpoint 2 - Students will submit a project proposal along with a project sketch.

Math

Students will develop proportional reasoning in developing their template for their US History webpage. Checkpoint 1 - Students will draw on paper a sketch of how they will design their webpage. Checkpoint 2 - Students will create Flash grids implementing their sketch and incorporate them into their final webpage.

Science

Checkpoint 1 - Students will research various branches of science as they brainstorm about their US History Fair project. They will then submit an outline of information pertaining to a select field. Checkpoint 2 - Students will research a historical figure who has made significant contributions in the fields of science and/or technology and submit a graphic organizer using Inspiration software to summarize the information they have discovered.

Technology

Students will design a webpage which explains the topics covered in the History Fair. Checkpoint 1 - Students will develop an initial webpage format which includes correct hierarchy and folder structure using Inspiration. Checkpoint 2 - Students will add photos and text which use the “Rule of Thirds” for pictures with correct color and contrast to design and enhance the symmetry of their website.
