There are many challenging issues facing the environment today around the globe. Human's are having an impact in one way or another on just about every eco-system on the planet. During this unit, students will pick an issue that is of interest to them, research that issue, and create multi-media presentation.
Students will create a webpage that comprehensively covers the topic they have chosen. Each class activity will be represented on a separate web page which is link up nicely to and index page that clearly communicates the subject. Each student will also incorporate a detailed podcast into this particular presentation.
In English, students will proofread and polish the script written in science class before it is submitted for podcasting.
Students will choose a topic related to an environmental issue and collect ten facts that focus on the ecological impact of that issue. Using this information, students will create a graphic organizer to be used in the creation of their podcasts.
Math students will show impact of their topic to the environment with a visual chart or graph that distinctly identifies this impact. Student must show an understanding of how variables gathered in their data affect the current outcome pertaining to the topic.
Students will take the information collected through Social Studies and write a 3-4 paragraph script to be used for their podcast. This script should clearly outline the chosen topic, and the writing should be focused. They will be required to elaborate on at least 2 problems associated with their topic and propose a solution.
Students will come to Technology Class with a final script written that conforms to the expectations laid out in science class. We will develop a web page that deals with the chosen topic, record a podcast, and publish it.
