Unit Overview
This nine weeks we will be emphasizing people, places, and contextual information that relate to United States presidential elections. Each core academic class will produce a small, relevant piece to be incorporated into a set of interrelated web pages dealing with this subject.
Project Description
Students will create 5 web pages for this project. Each web page will display the work that has been done in each of the academic areas. These pages should be clean, easily read, and show mastery of the design concepts taught in the technology class.
English
Students will analyze the current election process and research past
races to create a short report. Students will use either the library or
the Internet to identify a person important to the Presidential races of
the past, cite the source of the information, and then fill in some
biographical information (e.g., party affiliation, date and place of
birth and death, winner/loser of election[s], some noteworthy fact about
the person, etc.). The learner will also use the Internet to download a
portrait/picture of that person and cite the source correctly for
inclusion on the finished project (webpage).
Social Studies
As we look into the Presidential race our students should be able to identify and demonstrate the roles of our three branches of government. Students will identify the roles of the three branches of government. The final piece will be an inspiration document which demonstrates student understanding of the three branches of government.
Math
Math students will use Excel to show the margin of victory of the Presidential race their candidate was in. Students will research election data from their chosen presidential candidate’s race and represent it graphically.
Science
In science students will identify a scientific invention that occurred within 10 years of their candidates bid for election. Students will be asked to write a 1-2 paragraph summary that explains the significance of this advance.
Technology
In technology we will put together the final project. The final project will consist of a series of web pages that are neatly linked together. The students will build a neat, readable index page that links off to one web page per subject area that clearly demonstrates the work they did for each particular class.
