Our math program integrates and emphasizes problem solving through the math curriculum. In addition, we continue to build on the mathematical skills that include basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We believe hands on manipulatives and real life experiences help bring math concepts to life.
The fourth grade language arts curriculum consists of an integrated reading and writing program known as Four Blocks. Literature is taught through a wide variety of sources including the basal reader, reader’s theatre, social studies textbook, novels, poetry and other nonfiction sources. Writing is a major emphasis in fourth grade. The 6-Trait Writing Method breaks down the writing process into six areas: ideas, organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, and conventions (grammar skills).
Our rich Texas history is the focus of our social studies curriculum. We enjoy extending the students’ knowledge with guest speakers and field trips. Reading skills are taught while learning about Texas history.
Our science units of study include: The Natural World, Living Systems, Matter, Nonliving Systems, and Patterns of Change. Students understand the Nature of Science, Constancy and Change, Systems, Properties, Patterns, and Models.
