2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School The U. S. Department of Education has named Huebner Elementary a 2007 No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon School. The Blue Ribbon School Award honors schools for helping students achieve at high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap. Huebner will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D. C. on November 12 - 13, 2007. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honored 287 schools nationwide including public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. These schools are either superior in academics or have demonstrated impressive gains in student achievement to high levels. Only 413 schools nationwide may be nominated. Huebner was one of 23 schools in Texas and one of two schools in San Antonio to receive this honor. The schools are judged based on one of two criteria including: schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds have significantly improved student performance to high levels on state tests; and the second criteria states: public schools whose students achieve in the top 10 percent of their state on state tests. We are all honored and thrilled to receive an award of this magnitude. It is all due to the hard working, innovative and creative staff, parents and students that comprise this community. I am most grateful for the dedication, commitment, and love of children that is demonstrated on a daily basis by all members of this incredible family! Mrs. Ray, a Department of Education Representative, will be here at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 19th to make an official announcement and to congratulate the Huebner Community at a school-wide assembly.
