The
Hidden Forest Student Council
Established Fall, 2000
Advisors
The
Student Council will meet monthly to discuss topics and initiate
projects that benefit all the students of Hidden Forest Elementary School.
Fourth and Fifth grade students are eligible for nomination and
election to the Council if they meet certain criteria. Meetings are held on
Friday, from 1:45 to 2:30 pm, and some
activities will be held after school.
The
Council members shall exhibit appropriate behavior during all
student council activities; make up class work missed due to such
activities; maintain grades of 80 or higher in each subject area; and
maintain and "E" in conduct as indicated on report card.
Failure
to assume the above responsibilities will result in a three-week
probationary period or dismissal from Student Council if the student
has had two probationary periods.

The
Officers of the Student Council are the President, the Vice
President, the Secretary
and the Treasurer. |
President
The
President is the leader of the Council. He or she runs the meetings
and works closely with the other officers and the advisors. |

Works closely with and discuss all Council business with advisors. |

Keeps the vice president informed
about all Council business. |
 |
Works with the advisor and treasurer to prepare the Student Council
budget. |
 |
Announces meetings and prepare the room and supplies. |
 |
Calls meetings to order and following the agenda. |
 |
Explains and summarizes discussions for others.
Votes only when there is a tie. |
 |
Counts the votes and announce the results to the Council. |
 |
Serves as the spokesperson for the entire student body. |
 |
Keeps the entire student body informed about Council actions and
projects. |

Vice
President
The Vice
President must support the President and know the job well enough to
take over, if needed. |
 |
Must know the president's
job well and must be able to replace him or her in case of absence.

Works closely with the Student Council advisor. |
 |
Supports the president in every activity. |
 |
Contributes ideas in executive committee and general meetings.

 |
Helps prepare the agenda with the other officers. |
 |
Helps select the chairpersons and members, and coordinates the work of
any committees that might be formed. |

Secretary
The Secretary serves as
the memory of the Council and is largely responsible for its
communication functions. |

Works
closely with the Student Council advisors. |
 |
Works with the President to make sure all necessary materials are at
the meeting. |
 |
Publicizes the date, time, and place for the meetings. |
 |
Takes attendance and keeps accurate records of attendance for all
meetings. |
 |
Keeps a record of materials due from each member for projects, events,
etc. |
 |
Keeps a written record of each meeting (the minutes). |
 |
Writes any letters that the Council decides to send, and keeps a file
of all Council correspondence. |

Keeps an up-to-date list of all Council representatives. |

Treasurer
The Treasurer has the most technical job of all the Council officers,
keeping accurate records of all the Student Council money and must
know the rules about what the Council can do with its money. |
 | Takes counts of donations
and report the totals to the secretary, and must make announcements to
the entire school about donations to fund raisers. |

Works with other Council members and the advisor to prepare the budget.

Keeps a record of all the money that the Council makes and spends.

 |
Works closely with the school Treasurer to learn how to handle the money
and determine what procedures must be followed in handling Council money.

 |
Reports at each meeting how much money the Council has and how much it
has spent. |
 | Makes recommendations when the Council considers activities that involve
expenditures. |
