From the Counselors...
Each one of our children is one-of-a-kind, with talents, gifts, thoughts, needs, and dreams unique to each personality. And, each child learns differently and adjusts to the world in his or her own special way.

Helping students realize their individual potentials in order to achieve personal and academic success are the goals of the Hidden Forest Guidance and Counseling program.  The elementary school counselors work with all teachers and specialists on campus. This year, about 15 classroom guidance lessons are planned for each classroom, and frequent small group sessions and individual meetings with students are arranged. The counselors also observe and monitor students and meet with teachers and parents.

Through interaction and evaluation of students, the counselors can assess and address individual student problems and situations, such as learning disabilities, adjustment or adaptation, communication and expression, motivation, and behavior. Conferences with parents are encouraged and are confidential.

The elementary school counselors ...

bullet Consult and communicate with parents, faculty, staff, and community;
bullet Utilize appropriate guidance materials;
bullet Coordinate activities with school curriculum;
bullet Prepare for group testing programs, such as ability, achievement and competency;
bullet Coordinate campus review and evaluation for special education students;
bullet Assist in the referral process for special programs;
bullet Offer parenting workshops;
bulletMeet individually with students.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated PTA members and staff, Hidden Forest has a Parent Resource Library housed on campus in the main library. The lending library includes books, pamphlets, tapes, articles and other materials related to raising children. Topics are far-ranging and include behavior management, learning disabilities, gifted children, hyperactivity, developmental needs, physical needs and parenting skills.  Stop by and "check it out" on your next school visit.
