Tiffany Duke Hicks
What a trip down memory lane! My name is Tiffany Duke Hicks. I was in first grader the very first
year Hidden Forest opened. I remember we couldn't even start the school year at HF because the
school was not ready. I grew up in Hollywood Park. I graduated from Churchill in 1990.
I saw a few of my old teachers on the website. I remember Mrs. Bibb, Mrs. Ernst, and Mrs.
Sherman. I was sad to see Mrs. Yates was not there anymore. She was a huge influence in my
life. I think she has a lot to do with my career choice. I am now a kindergarten teacher in Austin at
Barton Creek Elementary in Eanes ISD. We received the Blue Ribbon last year along with Hidden
Forest. Here is a link to my site

Mandy Peterson Rice
My name is Mandy Peterson Rice. I was also in first grade the very first year Hidden Forest
opened. I can remember the portables we used our first year and how the music teacher came
door to door with all of her materials in a shopping cart! It seems funny that I was a part of that
same process just a few years later, but from the other side. Stone Oak Elementary was not
completed when the school year started in 1996. I was fortunate to be hired as a first grade
teacher the first year Stone Oak opened, but we also had to start the year at another campus
until our building was finished. I really respect all those teachers at HF who made it seem so
easy to the students!
Mrs. Bibb was my first grade teacher that first year and probably one of the major influences
in my decision to become a teacher. I also remember all of the great teachers who made my
years at HF so fun!
I graduated from Churchill in 1990. I attended Baylor University and then returned to S.A to
teach first grade; two years at Regency Place and 5 ˝ years at Stone Oak. Last year I got
married and moved to Georgia. My husband is an officer in the Air Force and is a navigator on
a reconnaissance plane; E-8 Joint STARS. Georgia is certainly a new experience. I have
moved from the classroom into a technology position here in Warner Robins, Georgia. It is fun
helping teachers to incorporate technology in the curriculum, but it is hard not to be with the
children. I miss Northeast and the wonderful teachers who supported me as a student and as
a peer.

Jennifer (Ward) Lopez
My name is Jennifer (Ward)
Lopez. I was in the first official graduating class, attending K-5, at Hidden
Forest. I had wonderful memories growing up in Hidden Forest and attending the
school. My parents still live in the house I grew up in, a block away from the
school, and I have enjoyed taking my daughters to the playground on Saturdays
since my first was born almost 5 years ago. Unbelievably, my husband and I made
the decision last year to move our family into the area, so that our girls can
attend Hidden Forest. I am so excited for them.
I too have warm memories of
days spent and teachers at HF. That was a time when prayer was not reprimanded,
kids could dress up for Halloween, Christmas was celebrated and kids could
actually walk to and from school without any fear. Some teachers I remember are
Miss Berthold (I think, before she married – sp?), Mrs. Ernst, Mrs. Bibb (of
course), PE with Ms. Pacheco, the Librarian with red hair, music with Mrs. Snow
and many more I can still imagine, but cannot remember their names.
As for music with Mrs. Snow,
does anyone remember the Halloween story she told? My 3 sisters (Susan, Michelle
and Tina), who also attended, always try but we cannot remember. I also remember
her teaching us the recorder; my Mom & Dad must have really appreciated that.
The PTA programs, PE square
dancing, recess, music, the library and the cubby holes, being a patrol and
more. It was a great school to grow up at and I am forever thankful.
I graduated from Churchill in
1991 and went on to SWT, UTSA and more. I graduated with a degree in
Interpreting for the deaf, but sadly I do not use that degree. I am very happy
though. My work experience while in school at the Hard Rock Café in San Antonio
led me to a job in Sales and Marketing. For the last 3 ˝ years I have been the
marketing manager for Gruene Hall, Gristmill, Jo St Café and several retail
shops in Historic Gruene. It is very excited and fulfilling work.

I started out in Hidden Forest as a second grader, with Mrs. Shelfer as my first
teacher. Those really were fun times. I remember all the school activities we
used to have, they were so much fun. I had great teachers up until fourth grade,
the year I left.
Currently I live in Mexico, about to move to L.A. and become a junior in high
school. Time really does fly.
