Harris Middle School Cell Phone Policy

Parents and students are reminded of Harris Middle School's telecommunications policy forbidding the use of cell phones and other telecommunications devices during the school day. This policy is strictly enforced every day and especially on state testing days.

The policy requires that cell phones, pagers, and similar devices be

  • turned off

  • out of sight

  • not used

Phones should be turned off when students arrive on campus in the morning and until they exit the building at the end of the day. Parents are asked to contact the school if they need communication with their child during the school day. During special circumstances, school personnel may allow a student to use their phone during the school day.

Violation of this policy will result in the device being confiscated.

Students are still permitted to possess these devices while at school, but are cautioned about the added importance of not using them during the school day, especially testing days, to prevent any appearance of impropriety. On state testing days, any unauthorized use of these devices could cause the invalidation of a student's test score.

Parents and students are encouraged to discuss the telecommunications policy so that everyone is aware that the school will firmly enforce this policy.
