Fifth Grade Welcome to Fox Run Fifth Grade Curriculum Our Math program is designed to develop understanding through the connection of concrete experiences to abstract representations as part of comprehensive, coherent plan. The sequence of topics is as follows: number/operations, fractions/decimals, probability, statistics/patterns, geometry, and measurement. Language Arts focuses on applying skills to literature and writing. To accomplish this, students read and analyze various selections of fiction and non-fiction material. They use different forms of writing for specific purposes, such as to inform, persuade, or entertain. Our study of Science includes planning and implementing investigations using the scientific method with an emphasis on systems and cycles through such topics as matter, energy, geology, and environment. The Social Studies curriculum is based on six basic strands: U.S. history, geography, economics, government, citizenship, and culture. Various forms of technology are woven throughout the curriculum.
