fine arts - orchestra
The music program of NEISD is designed to provide opportunities for each student to develop his/her creative talent in a variety of ways. The Music Department consist of four main areas: Band: 6th-12th grade; Choir: 6th-12th grade. Orchestra: 5th-12th grade and Elementary Music: K-5th grade. All Music programs focus on establishing and developing basic musical and performance skills. Music training begins with our Elementary Music programs and upon entering the Secondary level, students may choose between Band, Choir and Orchestra.
Orchestra members in the 9th-12th grade are introduced to a greater variety of challenging literature. Throughout the year, orchestra members perform eight-ten concerts as well as compete in UIL concert and Sight-reading events. Members also have the opportunity to enter UIL Solo and Ensemble competitions and audition for the “All-Region” and “All-State” orchestras. In April of each year, NEISD Orchestra programs are showcased at the annual “Evening with Strings” concert. Approximately 1,700 students from the 5th-12th grades perform together in this yearly event.
