North East Students are State Bound for the UIL Academic Meet

NEISD students will be heading to Austin at the end of the month to compete in this year’s UIL State Competition.  The district had one of its most successful regional meets with three schools placing in the top five positions for overall sweepstakes.  MacArthur High School took home this year’s Region IV 5A Conference Runner- Up.  Right behind them were Reagan and Churchill High School finishing third and fourth place.  The UIL Academic competition consists of twenty-four curriculum based events in math, science, social studies, computer, journalism, speech, debate and theater.  The majority of events include individual and team competitions.  Students placing in the top three and top placing teams at the regional meet qualify for the State meet, which is held each year at UT Austin.  This year’s number of qualifications is one of the best showings in the district’s history.  Both coaches and students are now focused on returning home with a state championship.
