Lopez MS Band Earns National Award for 4th time in 5 Years!
Lopez Middle School Honors Band, under the direction of Mr. Andy Post and Mrs. Kim Garza, has been selected as a Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Competition. This marks the 4th time in 5 years that Lopez Band has earned this honor. The Lopez Honors Band Program included: His Honor March by Fillmore, Appalachian Morning by Sheldon, and Puszta by Van der Roost.
The CD recording competition was adjudicated by: Gary Garner, former Director of Bands at West Texas A&M University, James, Keene, Band Director Emeritus at the University of Illinois, and Larry Livingston, Professor of conducting and orchestra at the University of Southern California.
This year 184 of the finest musical ensembles in the nation entered the competition from 35 states. Lopez Band also had 3 outstanding national soloists. Katie Cotter (now a 9th grade flutist in the Reagan HS Band), Darren Churn (currently an 8th grade oboist in the Lopez MS Honors Band), and Andrew Xiang (now a 9th grade clarinetist in the Reagan HS Band).
