The North East Summer Orchestra Workshop provides violin, viola, cello and bass students with the opportunity to further develop their technique in orchestral playing through a variety of orchestral literature, at the same time broadening their music appreciation and overall musicianship. The workshop is designed for students currently in fifth through eighth grades.
Three levels of orchestras are offered at the workshop. Sinfonia Orchestra is primarily for 5th grade students who have studied their instruments for approximately one year and who have had limited orchestral ensemble experience. Students who have had some amount of orchestral experience, but are not as advanced in their technical skills will be placed in Concert Orchestra. The Chamber Orchestra is for more advanced students who are able to play in upper positions on their instrument.
Students will be placed in one of the three orchestras primarily based on their grade in school. However, adjustments will be made to the assigned orchestras as needed during the first rehearsal.
The workshop will conclude with a performance featuring all the orchestras on Thursday, June 20th, at 7:00 p.m., and a trip to Splashtown on Friday, June 21st. Click here for Registration Form. Registration deadline is Friday, May 31.
