Technology Spotlights

For 7th grade teachers heading into the 4th quarter, please consider utilizing the lesson Texas Struggle for Civil Rights. Students will research 3 key people and 3 organizations important to the civil rights movement in Texas, finding at least 5 facts about each and their significant contributions to American civil rights. Strong emphasis on utilizing library databases and proper researching skills.

For 6th grade teachers heading into the 4th quarter, please consider utilizing the lesson Exploring Mexico. Students will describe images of a characteristic of a cultural group from 4 different time periods of Mexico's history analyzing how it has changed and why the student thinks it changed. Describe maps on 4 different time periods in Mexican history and analyze how they have changed and why. Use the information found and place in a PowerPoint presentation. This works best as an introductory lesson to a unit on Mexico.

Technology Integration Tips

When resizing a picture in MS FrontPage, always click on the resample icon on the "pictures" toolbar after resizing which changes the pixel size to match the display size. This is important to keeping the visual integrity of the picture.

You can use a part of video taken with a camera as a still picture when developing a movie with Windows Moviemaker. Simply pause the video on the small screen of Moviemaker and select the camera icon that appears below the small screen on the right side of the screen. You will then be prompted to save the picture taken as a .jpeg picture file and placed in your video collections.
