Thorough knowledge of the dictionary is a way to increase your ability to find the information that is needed for class work, reports, special projects as well as everyday living! Here is your task:
- Create a document in MS Word using a table to categorize the list of vocabulary words you will be given. There are 3 lists with 30 words on each list (Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced). When creating the table, use the categories: Adjective, Adverb, Noun, Verb. The table will need 2 columns and 4 rows. The headings in the table need to be titled and shaded. (Click here for an instruction sheet on how to create the tables). See example of table below:

- Using this website, define the vocabulary words in your own words, typing the word and its definition into the appropriate section of the table you created in MS Word
- After you have defined and categorized all 30 words in the Beginning set, open another Word document and write sentences with the list of words. Try to use as many words in one sentence. Remember it must make sense!! Save this document at SentBeg
- Using the highlighter tool
in MS Word, highlight each of the vocabulary words in your sentences.
-
After you have completed your sentences, move on to the next list of words and repeat the process of defining, categorizing and writing sentences. Be sure to save each document separately using these file names:
Intermediate Words = VocabInt, SentInt
Advanced Words = VocabAdv, SentAdv
- When you have finished defining, categorizing and writing sentences for all 3 lists, begin to write a story using as many of these words as possible.
