3.2E Construct simple graphs, tables, maps, and charts to organize, examine and evaluate information.

Identify and locate cells, rows, and columns.
3.11A Identify and describe the importance of earth materials including rocks, soil, water, and gases of the atmosphere in the local area and classify them as renewable, nonrenewable, or inexhaustible resources.

Create a diagram or open an existing template that explains an idea or concept.

Lesson Title:  Natural World

Software Application(s):  Excel, Kidspiration

Directions:
1. Open the Kidspiration categories template. Discuss and guide students to organizing resources by categories. When all resources are in their categories, click on the writing view. Students should type in the names of the resources under the correct category.  (See Categories answers)

2. Print copy of categories to use with Excel spreadsheet.

3. Open Excel Natural World template.

4. Have students enter data from their categories page into the cells of the spreadsheet. Identify what type of resource each is by a representation of "R", "N", or "I". Students may use a different font size, type, style, or color to indicate differences.

5. Discuss the importance of each resource in our world and document under "Importance".

6. Students can now think of and add additional resources found in our area to the list and identify.
