3rd Grade Math
The lesson below is designed to help you address probability
| Math TEKS | NEISD Technology Standards | ||
| 3.14C | Use data to describe events as more likely, less likely, or equally likely. |
I1 |
Open an existing resource page on the student-shared directory. |
| 3.16A | Explain and record observations using objects, words, pictures, numbers, and technology. | I2 | Click on link to view web site. |
| 3.17A | Make generalizations from patterns or sets of examples and nonexamples. | I3 | Use the Back, Forward, and Home buttons to navigate on the web. |
| S1 | Create spreadsheet by entering text, and values (numeric). | ||
| S2 | Use Chart Wizard to create charts/graphs as grade level and task appropriate to express ideas and solve problems. | ||

Lesson Title: Probability Software Applications: Excel, Internet Explorer Directions:
1. Have the students open
the link that you create to the sites below. (Creating
a Hotlist) 2. Have the students open the excel template or blank excel document. (Use a blank excel document to have the students create their own chart. You might look at the template for an idea of how to create the student chart.) 3. Direct the students to which probability link you want them to use. (Spinners, dice, coin flip) 4. Demonstrate how to use the probability link that you ask the students to use. 5. Using the coin flip, or one of the other choices, have the students record the results on their excel document for a differing number of flips. (ie 10, 25, 50, 75, 100 The coin flip will not allow you to flip more than 100 times.) 6. Have the students total their information that they collect. 7. The students type their observations from looking at the data that they have collected.
