Lesson Title:  Grid Points and Spurs Table

Software Applications:  Excel & Word

Directions:
Grid Points is an activity in which students locate and name points on a grid. The Grid Points template has 2 different activities and a third sheet in which students can create their own grid template
(see Excel worksheet tabs). On Sheet 1 the students must enter the coordinates for each of the letters on the grid. On Sheet 2 the students have to place and label the dots according to the coordinates. Sheet 3 is blank so that the students can create their own grid. Students can use the line tool to connect the dots and see if they can recognize the shape.

Before you go to the computer lab, open the templates, and save them to the Student Shared Directory so that all of your students can access the files.
You will want to make the files read-only so that more than one student can open the document at the same time. Right click on the document, and choose properties. When the box opens, click in the box next to read-only. Click Apply and then click OK.

The Spurs Table lesson has the students use the San Antonio Spurs website to collect data and then create a table and a graph with a key. Students can create questions that go along with their graph for the other students to answer.

To gather the information have the students go to www.spurs.com. At the top of the website click on Box Score under the heading Previous Game. You will now see all of the statistics from the previous game. If you click on Printable Box Score the students will only be able to see that stats. They won't see any distracting banners or be able to click on to a different web page. Have the students choose a predetermined number of players and have them record 3 or 4 different stats for that player. Using the Spurs Table directions, instruct the students on how to create a table and then their graph.
