Science TEKS   NEISD Technology Standards
5.2C Analyze and interpret information to construct reasonable explanations from direct and indirect evidence. G1 Create a diagram or open an existing template that explains an idea or concept.
5.11C Identify past events that led to the formation of the Earth's renewable, non-renewable, and inexhaustible resources. G2 Insert symbols or pictures into diagram.
    G3 Enter text.
    G6 Use the Rapid Fire tool in input ideas into a diagram.
M1 Create a new presentation or open an existing one on the student-shared directory.
    M2 Insert multiple New Slides.
    M3 Use design templates to customize presentations.
    M4 Change backgrounds by selecting Format from the menu bar and choosing Background.
    M8 Format text by using Bullets and Numbering.
    M10 Insert Pictures from Clipart Gallery and From File.
Directions:

This activity should take 2-3 weeks in the lab to complete.

Part I - Inspiration Template

  1. Open template. To save, have students click on File/Save As and navigate to their personal directory and click Save.
  2. Use template and links to research types of resources. For each type of research, create additional idea bubbles and list specific resources.
  3. Use the link to research and find ways that resources can be preserved. Create additional idea bubbles.
  4. Print.

Part II - Power Point Slide Show directions:

  1. Using Microsoft Power Point, students can create an individual presentation using their notes from their Inspiration thought web.
  2. Slide 1: Title slide - students create and type in a title to represent the theme.
  3. Slides 2-4: Using their thought web, students create slides representing data for each type of Earth resource. Students should add appropriate clipart pictures.
  4. Students may go back and change the style of the title on each slide - font, font style (bold, italic, underline) size, color.
  5. Students should add and design additional slide(s) to show ways of preserving resources. 
  6. Students should add additional graphics on the title slide, format the background, and edit slide transitions for their presentation.
