Directions:

This activity gives students practice using an online Dictionary to find and illustrate different meanings for Homophones.

Before going to the lab...

Please take the Homophone Hotlist and Homophone Template (PowerPoint) and save it to your student shared server (usually H: drive) by right clicking on the above Homophone links and choosing Save Target As.. Next,  navigate to the H: drive and the folder you would like to save this Homophone activity in. BE SURE TO SAVE BOTH OF THESE ACTIVITIES IN THE SAME FOLDER!!!!

You will need to make some Homophone Index card pairs for the students to use to create their slide. This link is very helpful... http://donnayoung.org/language/sp/simsound.htm

In the Lab...

All the directions for this lesson are on the hotlist. Have the students seated on the floor and model what the lesson will look like including: navigating to the proper folder, reading hotlist directions, opening and using the PowerPoint, typing their name, opening and using clip art, etc. Then have students go to their assigned computer and log on and navigate through My Computer to the Homophone Activity that you saved. Give each student a pair of Homophones and have them complete the activity. Have the students print their slide when they are finished so that you can publish all the students' work into a class book.

****If the student computer tries to bring up the PowerPoint in Explorer, you will have to have students right click on the PowerPoint link and Save Target As. Save to their personal directory (the G drive). Then, choose OPEN.
